Let's learn about what to reflect and what to celebrate 🥳 this Muharram
Assalamu Alaikum dear brothers and sisters,
I was surprised to see the Islamic year had already changed—it made me pause for a moment. Yes, Muharram 1447 AH has begun, and with it comes a powerful opportunity to pause, reflect, and renew.
Honestly, I used to treat Muharram like just another day—until I learned what it actually means. Even though there are no big celebrations or Eid-like gatherings, this sacred month has a quiet beauty to it.
✨ Why Muharram Matters
-
It was in Muharram that Allah gave victory to Musa (AS).
-
It’s one of the best months for voluntary fasting.
-
The 10th of Muharram (Ashura) carries deep historical and spiritual meaning.
-
It's one of the four sacred months mentioned in the Quran (Surah At-Tawbah: 36)
When I think about it, Muharram gives us a chance to start our Islamic year with intention. Not resolutions or huge plans, but just a real moment to ask: “Where am I with my faith right now?”
🕋 My Simple Advice as a Fellow Muslim
You don’t have to do everything perfectly. I try to:
-
Fast on Ashura (10th Muharram)
-
Add the 9th or 11th if I can (as the Prophet ﷺ recommended)
-
Make heartfelt du’a, especially for forgiveness and guidance
-
Be extra mindful of my words and actions
-
Give a little sadaqah as a fresh start to the year
-
Reflect on my relationship with Allah
I’ve started writing down just one line each day—nothing fancy, just how I’m feeling or a small du’a. It really helps.
📱 What I’m Doing This Year
This year, I’ve promised myself just 5 minutes each morning to pause, recite one ayah, and do one small kind act—even if it’s just a smile or a silent du’a.
And something new I’m trying — sending one kind message a day to someone. A simple “May Allah bless you” or “I’m making du’a for you today.” It lifts both hearts.
🧠 Reflecting on the Lessons of Ashura
Ashura isn’t just about the day—it’s about the stories. The bravery of Musa (AS), the patience of the oppressed, and the importance of standing for truth, even when it’s hard. Take a moment to read Surah Al-Qasas or Surah Taha to revisit that story.
For me, this month isn’t just about a date—it’s about checking in with my heart.
