Sunnah and Duas for Wudu

An important act or practice before Wudu:

• Brushing the teeth with Miswak (toothpick) before Wudu is a very important Sunnah.

• A toothbrush is not an alternative to brushing the teeth; It has been reported that some toothpastes contain fat from forbidden animals or pigs;

  • pigs are so deadly that they spread twenty types of infectious diseases. Among them, tapeworm is worth mentioning.

Miswak can be done with Wudu according to two rules:

a) Brushing the teeth properly before starting Wudu.

Always Start brushing your teeth from the right side teeth of your mouth, first on the upper and then  lower rows of teeth, and brush the teeth like this three times.

• The second time, brush the teeth three times, and wash the teeth.

Finish brushing the teeth in the same way the third time.

b) Start Wudu and rinse the first time and brush the Miswak.

• Then rinse the remaining two times.

• It is also Sunnah to clean the tongue with a miswak.

• Any tree or root except the branches of the kanchi and pomegranate tree can be used as a toothpick.

• The toothpick should be as thick as a finger; It should not be longer than one hand span; It is obligatory to keep the toothpick in a clean place; There is no specific rule for keeping the toothpick; Those are exaggerations.

•Rasul Muhammad ﷺ used to make miswak from the leaves of the palm trees and also used date palm tree.

  • There is also evidence of brushing the teeth using meswak after eating.

Dua for Wudu:

Read this before starting -

• باسم الله ) or
• ا اب بِاسمِ الله وَالحَمدُ لِلَّهِ or
• الرحمن الرحيم بسم الله

  • When starting ablution/Wudu, in the name of Allah (Bismillah) or
  •  in the name of Allah and praise be to Allah or
  •  in the name of the Most Merciful, in the name of Allah

While performing ablution, recite this supplication:

اللهم اغفر لي ذنبى ، وَ وَسِعَ لِي فِي دَارِي ، وَبَارِكْ لِى فِي رِزْقِى -
Pronunciation: Allahumma hummag fir li jambi, a assi li fi daari; a barik li fi rikshi.
Meaning:- Allah, forgive my sins; expand my dwelling; and bless my sustenance for me.

After ablution, if the Shahadat (Targhani) finger is raised towards the sky and this Kalima is recited, the eight gates of Paradise are opened for the reciter.
أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له ، و أشهد أن محمدا عبده
Pronunciation:- Ashhadu Allah ila-ha illallahu-ahdahu la-sharik lah, a ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu arasuluh. Allah-hummaj alni minattawabin, aj alni minal muta tah hirin.
Meaning: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His servant and Messenger. Ya Allah Make me among those who repent frequently and attain purity.

• If it is not a makruh time, then performed two rak'ahs with concentration(تحية الوضوء) . It is
Sunnah to perform the prayer of honoring ablution.
• It is enough to recite the intention of ablution, like the intention of prayer and fasting, in your mind.

  • You can pronounce it very loudly in your own language, but no hadith has given the specific words for the intention of all of these; therefore, the specific words for the intention of ablution and fasting that are prevalent are all baseless, even the word for fasting is wrong and ridiculous.
• In the narration of /1 Tirmidhi, the word (gada) is used either because the moon was seen and the conversation took place before sunset; or it is used in a figurative sense; because the first part of the day after sunset is called bukra, not godan;
Thus, during ablution, there is no separate supplication for washing the hands,
• a separate supplication for washing the face,
• a separate supplication for wiping the head, etc. is not exist in the hadith; therefore, there is no need to recite these.
